Free-response questions (FRQs) are the part of the AP® Spanish Language and Culture exam where you write your own answers. Here they're grouped the way the exam uses them. Write your answer, then score it yourself with the rubric and a model answer, or sign in for free AI scoring.

New for the May 2027 exam

  • Free response comes first: a project presentation, a project Q&A and an argumentative essay. Then 55 multiple choice questions, 25 listening and 30 reading. Argumentative essay

You read an article and a chart, listen twice to an audio source (here, a written transcript), then write an essay in Spanish that takes a clear position on a question and backs it with evidence from all three sources.

On the exam: Question 3 of 3 in the free-response section, which comes first on the exam (65–70 minutes for the section, 50% of your score; this essay is 15%). The other two questions, the project presentation and the project Q&A, are spoken and aren't practiced here. Plan on about 55 minutes for one.
